Bowling Green Independent Schools intend to provide all students in-person school five days per week for the upcoming year, which begins August 5, 2021. School officials will continue to monitor both the level of community transmission of COVID-19, as well as vaccination coverage, and will adapt operations and requirements as necessary.
All eligible individuals are strongly encouraged to receive the COVID-19 vaccination, however vaccination is not required to attend or work in Bowling Green Independent Schools.
As we begin the 2021-2022 school year, face masks will be optional, but recommended for all unvaccinated persons while indoors. Vaccinated individuals are also encouraged to wear masks when at risk for significant exposure, including while in groups or crowded common areas. Masks will be required on school buses, as a form of public transportation. Masks will be available in all school buildings and on buses.
BGISD partners with Graves Gilbert Clinic for health services, including the ability to promptly identify and isolate cases of COVID-19. Testing is available on-site in all schools with both rapid antigen and PCR tests, and schools work with the local health department to facilitate case investigation and contact tracing when necessary.
ISOLATION GUIDANCE FOR INDIVIDUALS POSITIVE FOR COVID-19:
Students and employees should stay home if they are sick or have a fever.
Persons who test positive for COVID-19 should self-isolate and must stay home from school for 10 days after the start of their illness, returning to school after both 10 days and resolved symptoms.
QUARANTINE GUIDANCE FOR CLOSE CONTACTS:
Following exposure to an individual with COVID-19, students or employees must quarantine and may return to school after seven days from the date of last exposure if both symptom-free and a negative COVID-19 test 5 days or later after the last exposure to the case.
Students or employees may return to school after 10 days without testing if symptom-free.
Fully vaccinated persons will not need to quarantine following an exposure to a person with COVID-19 if symptom free. Proof of vaccination (vaccination card) will be required for an exemption to quarantine.
Physical distancing will be adhered to the greatest practicable in classrooms and at mealtimes, while operating with all students five days per week. Handwashing will be taught, reinforced, and sanitizing stations available throughout all school buildings.
Surfaces will be cleaned daily, with high-touch areas cleaned more frequently throughout the school day. School ventilation systems are filtered, with fresh air circulating in all classrooms throughout the school day.
