Beacon Yearbook and Staff Earn Awards at WKU Journalism Scholars Day

During the Journalism Scholars Day at Western Kentucky University Oct. 24, the Beacon yearbook was awarded third place in division AAAA for Best Overall Yearbook. The statewide Mark of Excellence contest is sponsored and judged by members of the Society of Professional Journalists and by faculty and staff of the WKU School of Journalism & Broadcasting. 


Last year marked the 75th volume of the Beacon at BGHS. The theme was developed around the concept of the book and school’s “Legacy.”

BGHS Students Recognized at WKU Scholars Luncheon

WKU honored 94 students from Bowling Green and Warren County high schools for their academic achievements at the annual Scholars Luncheon held Friday, October 17 at the Augenstein Alumni Center. This year’s group has an average ACT composite score of 29.4 and grade-point average of 3.9 and included 31 Kentucky Governor’s Scholars and six National Merit Semifinalists.

BGHS Seniors Honored as Distinguished Young Women of Warren County

Distinguished Young Women of Warren County is an official local preliminary of Distinguished Young Women, a national scholarship program that promotes and rewards scholarship, leadership and talent in young women. The top three honorees in the 2014 Warren County event are seniors at Bowling Green High School. Overall winner, Savannah Young is the daughter of Tim and Angela Young. First Runner-Up, Sara Cohron is the daughter of Van and Laura Cohron, and Second Runner-Up, Amy Cherry is the daughter of Oscar and Jeanine Cherry.

Eight Named 2015 National Merit Semifinalists

Eight seniors from Bowling Green High School have been recognized for outstanding academic achievement by the National Merit® Scholarship Program. Six are currently attending BGHS and two are now enrolled at the Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science. All will have the opportunity to compete for more than 7,600 scholarships worth about $33 million that will be offered next spring.

School Computer Lab Hours Extended

School computer labs are open afternoons and evenings for Bowling Green students wishing to complete school work or projects. Students may visit any school lab (not only their home school) and log in using a student username and password. The District's Acceptable Use Policy applies. Primary students must be accompanied by an adult.
