My name is Julie Grim. This will be my thirtieth year of teaching and I love it as much today as I did my very first year of teaching! I received my Bachelor of Education degree from Shippensburg University in Pennsylvania and my Masters in Reading from Pennsylvania State University. I have also received my Masters in Education from Western Kentucky University, as well as English Second Language (ESL), Gifted and Talented, and Autism Spectrum Disorder, and gender Women's Studies certifications. I am currently working on receiving a Master's Degree in Social Responsibility and Sustainable Commuinities.
I taught second grade in Pennsylvania for ten years and then moved to Houston, Texas where I taught Language Arts and then became a Literacy Coach for my school district. Through my experiences traveling around my district to work in various schools, I fell in love with the ESL students and decided to go to the University of Houston to get my ESL certification. I then started teaching ESL and became ESL coordinator at my school .
Wanting to be close to family, I moved to Bowling Green and was so fortunate to find my perfect job---- Teaching ESL at Parker-Bennett-Curry! I love my students and my school! Along with teaching ESL, I am also the Writing Cluster Leader for Parker- Bennett-Curry. I also enjoy being the Academic Team Coach/Sponsor, and After School Computer Lab Sponsor, where I work with students from various schools around the district in completing assignments where technology is necessary, but not accessible within their homes. I am also currently collaborating with the National Writing Project and Western Kentucky University to develop Outreach and Summer Academies to promote the literacy growth of our ESL students.
Outside of school, I enjoy interior decorating, reading, going to the beach, being outdoors, but mostly spending time with my 17 year old daughter, McKenna, family, friends and my ShihTzu puppy, Olivia.
I am so excited to have the opportunity to work with and be a part of the lives and learning of children. This year I am especially excited to be working with the kindergarten and first grade English Language Learning students at Parker- Bennett- Curry Elementary. Having the opportunity to reach and work with these children at such an early age of cognitive development is extremely important, challenging, and rewarding.
