Original Photo - Justice - Souls Contemplation

Process: To me it’s all about the little things in photography, and I took this photo in monochrome to bring out the simplistic details of the image. After seeing a “Rocky Horror” themed show, my friends and I explored a walking trail. To guard against the cold, we grabbed blankets and a flashlight from my car. In a clearing, we found a mysterious wooden chair in the blackness of the night. Lighting from 4 camera phone flashlights gave the photo soft yet grungy light, overlaying his face with contour shadows that make the intensity of his stare broaden. The flashlight at his feet adds a glimmer to his hair. The black background gives you a sense of peace, almost as if he is stuck in a void of deep pondering, and the symmetry from his face and arms bleeds into a strict derision between the shape of the cigarette pack and the slipping blanket from the bottom of the chair. I asked Mikey for an eye-to-eye portrait, something intense, true, and somewhat haunting and connecting in the power of what he wants to show us through his eyes. He most definitely delivered, and together we made “The Souls Contemplation.” Justice - Souls
