Welcome to Computer Science Discoveries (CS Discoveries) at BGJHS!
I’m excited to have you in class this year.
Here are some things you should know about my class this year!
Computer Science Discoveries (CS Discoveries) is an introductory computer science course created by Code.org that empowers students to create authentic artifacts and engage with computer science as a medium for creativity, communication, problem solving, and fun.
Topics & Tools
There are 6 Units throughout the entire year that include Problem Solving, Web Development, Interactive Games & Animations, The Design Process, Data & Society, and Physical Computing. CS Discoveries focuses on the skills that enable students to create and express themselves in a variety of contexts and media. Whether they are developing their own website, designing an app, building a game, or creating a physical computing device, students are empowered to bring their ideas to life.
Students should bring a pencil and agenda to class daily. Students may also bring earbuds. Students will also be using online applications such as, but not limited to: Edmodo, Code.org, and Google Drive. If you wish to have an account to see your child's assignments, your student can give you a parent code, or you can contact me for a parent code.
The majority of assignments will be projects. I will rarely assign homework to be completed outside of class. I allow classwork to be completed in class, but you may work on any assignments outside of class. This is encouraged if you have missed class. All assignments should be turned in using Edmodo, which I will teach you how to use. I also have help videos posted: http://goo.gl/knc1rT
Late Work & Regrading
Late work and redoing an assignment will be accepted. E-mail me for more information.
