The Potter Gray SBDM Principal Selection Committee voted Wednesday morning, May 21, to select Byron Darnall as their new principal. He will officially begin duties on July 1, 2014.
Mr. Darnall is currently serving as Bureau Chief for Educator Quality at the Iowa Department of Education in Des Moines. Prior to moving to Iowa, Darnall served as Principal of Glasgow High School (2010-2011) in Glasgow Independent Schools and as Assistant Principal of Chandlers Elementary School (2009-2010) in Logan County. Before working as an administrator, he served nine years as an English and language arts teacher at Bowling Green High School (2000-2009). Darnall also previously taught literature courses through the Western Kentucky University VAMPY and Upward Bound programs.
Mr. Darnall holds a Bachelor’s Degree in English, a Master’s in Secondary Education, a Rank I in Education Administration and is currently pursuing a Doctorate of Education through Seton Hall University.
Superintendent Joe Tinius says, "We are excited to welcome Mr. Darnall and his family back to Bowling Green and Bowling Green City Schools. Throughout his years at BGHS, he was an excellent teacher and mentor, and his experience in educational leadership at the school, state, and national levels will be an asset to both Potter Gray Elementary and the entire school district."
Darnall says, "I am extremely grateful to Bowling Green City Schools, Potter Gray Elementary and the Potter Gray SBDM for again welcoming me to the Purple family. This opportunity gives me a renewed appreciation for the word 'homecoming.' Most importantly, I am excited to get to know the students and staff, share the halls and classrooms, and likely learn a great deal more from them than they will from me. It will be an honor to become a learner alongside the family that is Potter Gray Elementary.
Darnall is married to Michelle Young Darnall and they have three children: Greer (3), Emerson (10 months) and Anderson (10 months).
