The Itty Bitty Purples will soon be under the same roof at T. C. Cherry Elementary School. Beginning in August 2018, all three and four-year-old students will attend morning or afternoon sessions, with transportation provided by Bowling Green City Schools.
Currently, 127 preschool students are enrolled in one of three schools: Parker-Bennett-Curry, Dishman McGinnis or T. C. Cherry. Four teachers, six instructional assistants, and an intervention coordinator provide instruction and support to the students.
Moving to T. C. Cherry will allow the preschool program to build more community with all program support services in one building. It will also allow the district to consolidate preschool bus routes to one school location, and the move will add over 80 students to T. C. Cherry, which is the district’s smallest school, with 249 students currently in Kindergarten - fifth grade.
Krista Graves, Preschool Intervention Coordinator, has been working with the district facilities department and the T. C. Cherry staff to ensure a successful renovation and transition of all classrooms and offices.
Graves says, “We couldn’t be more excited about having our program all under the same roof again. We will be able to focus all our efforts on creating a high-quality, early childhood learning environment for our Itty Bitty Purples. The TC Cherry school family has embraced our program with open arms and we look forward to joining their team.”
T. C. Cherry Principal Kory Twyman says, “TC Cherry is very excited about being the Preschool location for the district. I feel like this will be an ideal situation for preschool teachers to have the opportunity to work together in a collaborative setting. I look forward to getting to know the students and their families.”
An open house at T. C. Cherry, including school tours and time for questions is planned for Tuesday, April 17, 2018. All returning preschool students and their families will be invited to attend.
