The Bowling Green Board of Education has hired two individuals to support the BGISD Foundation, Inc. Jonathan Vaughn and Craig Widener will be working to coordinate the annual Hall of Honor banquet at Bowling Green High School as well as social and reunion opportunities for former BGISD students and supporters. Both individuals will assist the Foundation in addition to responsibilities as teachers at Bowling Green High School.
The BGISD Foundation, Inc. is a nonprofit organization created to benefit the Bowling Green Independent Schools both academically and financially. The intent is to build on the network of people bound by “Purple Pride.” The organization is not tied to a specific school, but the entire Bowling Green Independent School District.
Jonathan Vaughn is a social studies and history teacher at Bowling Green High School. He is a 2002 graduate of BGHS and has a Bachelor of Arts, Master of Arts, and Rank 1 from Western Kentucky University. In addition to teaching AP US Government and Political Science, Vaughn works with the WKU Center for Gifted Studies VAMPY summer program, teaching and serving as the co-creator and co-builder of the Never Again traveling Nazi Germany exhibit. In 2017, Vaughn coordinated and organized alumni efforts to develop “Tradition Hall” as well as served as chairman of the Alumni Hall of Honor Banquet Committee.
Vaughn is currently working to organize the Hall of Honor Committee for the 2018 banquet. Nomination applications for the Class of 2018 are available for download here.
Craig Widener is a Political Science and Advanced Placement Psychology teacher at Bowling Green High School. He has three degrees from Western Kentucky University including a Bachelor of Arts in Broadcast Communications, Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education, and a Master of Arts in Education. Widener served as the BGHS Boys Head Soccer Coach from 2004-2015, winning two state championships: 2006 and 2014.
Widener will be coordinating social media and events for the Foundation, including opportunities for alumni and friends to meet and visit with friends, educators and former educators, as well as to learn about current happenings in BGISD.
