On Monday, August 21, 2017, our school district will be in the path of the total solar eclipse. Schools will be in session for this rare, exciting event and have planned viewing opportunities for students to experience the eclipse during the school day.
Students, faculty, and staff will be provided with custom Purples eclipse viewing glasses. The glasses were purchased from Rainbow Symphony, one of five manufacturers that meet the international standard for viewing (ISO 12312-2:2015). Students will not be allowed to view the sky during the eclipse without the proper viewing equipment, and they may not bring homemade viewing devices nor use any kind of ordinary sunglasses. Students also may not look at the eclipse through cameras, telescopes, binoculars, or other devices with or without eclipse glasses.
If parents and guardians do not wish for their child/children to participate in the direct viewing of the eclipse for safety or other reasons, an opt-out form will be provided by the schools. Students opting out will be provided alternative activities indoors.
Although our school district plans to dismiss students on time on the afternoon of August 21, following the solar eclipse, there are unknowns related to traffic in the Bowling Green area. Please be advised that bus routes may be delayed due to traffic issues.
