ABOUT THE PROJECT:
The priorities of overall construction of Bowling Green High School include:
Removing circular walls,
Adding natural light to all classrooms,
Increasing energy efficiency,
Displaying and honoring the school’s traditions and history,
Improving traffic flow around the school,
and providing a cutting-edge learning environment for future generations.
Phase One adds approximately 90,000 gross square feet to the school with a two-story structure built from the existing school, around the pool area toward Rockingham Lane. The first phase adds 80% of total classroom space for the project and includes the LEAD Academy, the Medical Arts Academy, English, math, social studies, science, special education, English language learners departments, as well as band, choir, and orchestra classrooms. A kitchen, located behind the arena is also included phase one.
Phase two of the project, which is scheduled to begin in June 2020, will include classroom space for world languages, computer technology, art, business education, family and consumer science, as well as a 700-seat auditorium, auxiliary gym, and natatorium. Common student spaces, a media center, and administrative offices will also be added in Phase 2B, with a complete new school to open in August of 2023.
