Tabor and Patel Named National Merit Finalists

Leah Tabor and Ronit Patel have been recognized for outstanding academic achievement and named National Merit® Finalists in the National Merit® Scholarship Program. Leah is the daughter of Mike and Holly Tabor, and Ronit is the son of Nima and Vikram Patel. Both seniors at Bowling Green High School will be considered for National Merit® Scholarships offered later this spring.

Principal Kyle McGraw says, “Leah and Ronit are extremely talented and hardworking students.  This is quite an honor, and one that they both clearly deserve. We, at Bowling Green High School, are extremely proud of their accomplishments.”

In September 2019, about 16,000 students, or approximately one-third of the 50,000 high scorers, were notified that they qualified as Semifinalists. This month, 15,000 of the  Semifinalists were notified that they have advanced to Finalist standing. Earning the recognition of Finalist, students have a consistently high academic record, and have earned an SAT score confirming their previous PSAT performance. These students also completed the National Merit Scholarship application, essay, and have been endorsed by a school official at BGHS.

Three types of National Merit Scholarships are offered to Finalists. All compete for one of 2,500 National Merit® $2500 Scholarships awarded on a state-representational basis. About 1,000 corporate-sponsored Merit Scholarship awards will be provided by approximately 220 corporations and business organizations, and about 180 colleges and universities are expected to finance some 4,100 college-sponsored Merit Scholarship awards for Finalists who will attend the sponsor institution.
