Celebrating National School Lunch Week: October 15 - 19

Bowling Green City Schools will recognize National School Lunch Week and the theme, “Lots 2 Love,” which is intended to encourage students and school nutrition professionals across the country to share what they love most about school lunch programs.

Technology Questionnaire Open This Week BrightBytes Logo

Bowling Green Independent Schools are partnering with BrightBytes, an educational research organization, to learn more about our students’ school and home technology use for learning. This week, the district will ask students (grades 3-12), teachers, administrators, parents & guardians to take part in the Technology & Learning questionnaire. Participation is essential to help form a more complete picture of technology use for learning. All responses will remain anonymous.

September is Attendance Awareness Month

September is School Attendance Awareness Month, and in BGISD, it is an opportunity to remind parents and students of the district's attendance policy. A student is allowed 5 days excused with parent notes and 7 days with doctor notes per school year.  After 7 doctor notes have been used, the district medical excuse form must be submitted for excused absences and/or tardies.  Parent and doctor notes must be turned in to the school within 72 hours of the student’s absence. This attendance policy is new for the 2018-19 school year and implemented in an effort to reduce chronic absenteeism, defined as missing more than 10% of the school year for any reason.

After-Hours Computer Lab

Afterhours computer will be open on Monday and Tuesday afternoons from 2:45 - 4:45 for students to complete homework requiring technology. Please send a parent note to school on the days you would like your child to attend. Remember that students must be picked up by their parent or guardian from the lab and all students must be picked up before 4:45 pm.

Pack-The-Backpack Program

If you'd like to help out the Family Resource Center (FRC), we could use donations of individual macaroni- and-cheese cups or pasta cups. We use these items to fill our bags for the Pack-the Backpack Program. If you'd like to make a donation, you can drop off items in the office anytime during regular school hours.

Celebrating Gifted Education Month

As February and Gifted Education month comes to a close, some of our students have written what Gifted Education means to them. Click here to view their words in Slides.

Practice for the Typing Olympics

For the month of February, students are competing in the Typing Olympics in the Computer Lab. Because students only come to the lab once a week, it is suggested that they practice at home as well. Typing.com and Dance Mat Typing are great websites with free games, no account needed. If you are interested, speedskin.com sells silicone keyboard covers that will help students improve quickly. Let Mrs. Tooley know if you have any questions: sally.tooley@bgreen.kyschools.us.

Student Lighthouse will be selling Lolly-Grams for 50 cents each until Friday, Feb. 9. They will be delivered on Valentine’s Day.

Math-a-Thon at McNeill

McNeill began its annual Math-A-Thon fundraising event last week that supports the research done by St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Students brought home a permission form and a donation packet last week. Please send the permission form back to school with your child as soon as possible because Miss P'Pool is going to order the math fun books next week. Donations for Math- A-Thon can start being collected and need to be turned in by Wednesday, February 28th. Our goal this year is to raise $2,000! Thanks for all of your support for the children of St. Jude!

BGISD to Make Up Days Missed 2017-18 Calendar Edited February 5

BGISD will be in session February 19, March 15, and March 16 to make up days missed for snow.

Winter Weather Communication Two steps to receive text message alerts.

During the winter months, school officials keep a close watch on the weather. If the decision is made to delay or close school, our district will make every effort to notify parents, guardians, employees and the community as soon as possible. With few exceptions, the decision to delay or close school is made by 5:45 a.m., before buses begin morning routes.

McNeill’s Got Talent

At the end of each year, we have a talent show to showcase our students’ talents. We have tryouts beforehand. Now is the time for your child/children to begin working on their routine. Please remember that any music, and dance, must be elementary school appropriate in theme and language. If your child is singing, it is to be to a wordless soundtrack. So, start practicing now. More to come after Spring Break.
