17 Seventh Grade Students Earn Recognition for ACT Scores


Seventeen 7th graders have earned ACT scores that rival or surpass high school juniors or seniors and have received recognition by the Duke Talent Identification Program (Duke TIP). These academically talented students from Bowling Green Junior High took the ACT College Entrance Exam earlier this year sitting alongside older peers.

The following students earned scores qualifying for State Recognition, scoring at or above the 50th percentile: Elena Amonette, Harry Carmichael, Sophia Dant, Harrison Gover, Zoe Hu, Maya Lebedinsky, James Macy, Katie May, Hadley McCormack, Dakota Moody, Kelci Morrison, Shelby Puckett, Emmy Rastoder, Colin Reed, Campbell Richey, Anmol Sandhu, and Matthew Stephens. They have been invited to attend the Kentucky State Recognition Ceremony to be held May 19th, at Diddle Arena on the campus of Western Kentucky University.

Three Bowling Green Junior High students earned both State and Grand recognition with scores among top 10% of high school juniors and seniors: Elena Amonette, Colin Reed, and Anmol Sandhu. They have been invited to the Grand Recognition Ceremony to be held May 22nd, on the campus of Duke University and the State Recognition Ceremony at WKU on May 19th.

Jennifer Davis, Director of Elementary & Secondary Programs says, “We are extremely proud of our students for performing so well on a college entrance exam as seventh graders.  Our district will certainly continue to challenge and support these students to help them achieve even higher scores during their high school years.”

The Duke University Talent Identification Program (Duke TIP) is a non-profit educational organization which identifies 7th graders in sixteen states who have scored at the 95th percentile or above on a grade-level achievement test. These students are invited to participate in the Duke TIP 7th Grade Talent Search and take either the SAT or the ACT. After receiving scores, participants will be offered a wide range of educational programs including independent learning opportunities and invitations to Scholar Weekends. Those who meet the qualifying score criteria will also receive information on summer programs and eStudies offered by Duke TIP.

Students invited to attend the grand ceremony meet at least one of the following criteria:
ACT English > 31
ACT Math > 29
ACT Reading > 31
ACT Science > 28
