Celebrating National School Lunch Week: October 15 - 19

Bowling Green City Schools will recognize National School Lunch Week and the theme, “Lots 2 Love,” which is intended to encourage students and school nutrition professionals across the country to share what they love most about school lunch programs.

8th Grade Parent Night at BGHS

8th Grade Parent Night will be held at the Bowling Green High School Theater on March 1st at 5:30 p.m.   Make plans to attend and learn about the Freshman LEAD Academy and the registration process.  Follow @BGHSLEADAcademy on Twitter for updates.

BGISD to Make Up Days Missed 2017-18 Calendar Edited February 5

BGISD will be in session February 19, March 15, and March 16 to make up days missed for snow.

2018-19 School Calendar Survey

The District Calendar Committee would like your opinions to assist with developing a 2018-19 school calendar. This survey is the first step in the process. A calendar recommendation will be presented for a first reading at the Board of Education on November 13. The calendar will be approved at the December Board of Education meeting, December 11th. 

Please complete this survey by October 27, 2017. 

K-PREP Testing Dates

K-PREP Testing Dates this year are May 3-9, 2018.  

Please avoid scheduling school day appointments during this timeframe.  Thank you!

8th Grade Promotion Ceremony

8th Grade Parents and Guardians are invited to attend this year’s Promotion Ceremony on May 23 at 8:00 a.m. in the Gym. This will be a time to celebrate your student’s achievements here at BGJHS as they get ready to accomplish even more at BGHS!

  • Student dress is “Sunday Best.”
  • Please park in the back parking lot.  Do not park in the bus loop.
  • Please use the Auditorium Lobby Entrance to for this event. It is the closest entrance to the Gym.


Online Registration Now Available

Parents and guardians may login to IC Parent Portal to complete online registration and enroll or verify enrollment for all students in Bowling Green Independent Schools. All are encouraged to complete this process before visiting schools for Back to School events to allow most paperwork to be completed. Click here to visit the IC Portal and begin. Parents as Students Open House

Parents, have you ever wondered what a day at school is like for your child?  Come find out at our annual Parents as Students Open House on Monday, September 24th from 6:00-8:00 p.m.  It’s a fun evening where you become the student and go to each of your child’s classes for a short period of time to see what a day is like for your child here at BGJHS. 

It’s a fun event that gives you an opportunity to get to know your child’s teachers better and the kind of work they do each day in the classroom.  We hope you’ll join us!

Technology Questionnaire Open This Week BrightBytes Logo

Bowling Green Independent Schools are partnering with BrightBytes, an educational research organization, to learn more about our students’ school and home technology use for learning. This week, the district will ask students (grades 3-12), teachers, administrators, parents & guardians to take part in the Technology & Learning questionnaire. Participation is essential to help form a more complete picture of technology use for learning. All responses will remain anonymous.

Track Tryouts

Any student interested in trying out for this year’s BGJHS Track Team should pick up a Track Tryout Packet from Mr. Shanklin in the Choir Room or you may download it HERE.

Winter Weather Communication Two steps to receive text message alerts.

During the winter months, school officials keep a close watch on the weather. If the decision is made to delay or close school, our district will make every effort to notify parents, guardians, employees and the community as soon as possible. With few exceptions, the decision to delay or close school is made by 5:45 a.m., before buses begin morning routes.

Jr. High Softball Tryouts

Tryouts for the Jr. High Softball Team will be July 10th and 11th from 5-6:30pm at the BGHS field. Must have updated sports physical.  For more info contact Coach Woodard at gwoodard418@gmail.com or 270-790-9830.

6th Grade Jump Start

All incoming 6th graders are invited to Jumpstart to 6th Grade at BGJHS this Summer! Jumpstart is an opportunity for students to become familiar with the layout of the Jr. High, meet some teachers, make new friends, and learn about the fun you will have in 6th grade!  A light breakfast and lunch will be served. 


New Kentucky Immunization Requirements for 2018-2019 New Immunization Requirement for 2018-2019

An amendment to the Kentucky Administrative Regulation added new immunization requirements beginning with the 2018-2019 school year. Effective July 1, 2018, ALL students in kindergarten through 12th grade must show proof of having received two doses of Hepatitis A vaccine and students 16 or older must show proof of having received two doses of Meningococcal ACWY (MenACWY) to attend school.

BGISD Adds S.T.O.P. Tipline STOP Tipline

New for 2018-19, BGISD is partnering with the Kentucky Center for School Safety to provide a S.T.O.P. Tipline reporting tool.

How the STOP Tipline works:
Click the link under RESOURCES on the district website. Choose whether you want to submit a tip about 1) bullying, 2) violence or 3) other risky behaviors (i.e. alcohol, drugs, self-harm, sexual abuse or theft, etc...). Next, fill-in the check boxes and explain then click submit.

Car Rider Morning Drop-Off and Afternoon Pick-Up Procedures (NEW!)

Softball Open Field

Girls entering 6th-8th grade next year are invited to an open field held on May 31st from 5:00 pm – 6:30 pm at the BGHS softball field. Girls must have a completed KHSAA sports physical on file to participate. For

Fifteen BGJHS Students Earn Recognition for ACT Scores

Fifteen 7th graders have earned ACT scores that rival or surpass high school juniors or seniors and have received recognition by the Duke Talent Identification Program (Duke TIP). These academically talented students from Bowling Green Junior High took the ACT College Entrance Exam earlier this year sitting alongside older peers

Boys Soccer Tryouts

BGJHS Boys Soccer will have tryouts at Potter Gray field starting July 12th, Monday through Thursday from 6:00-7:30 p.m. until further notice.

2018 BGJHS Football Registration

Any enrolled student interested in playing football for BGJHS should complete a 2018 Football Registration Packet (link below).  Practice will begin July 16th at 8am at BGJHS.  Students must bring a completed Registration Packet to practice along with an updated sports physical (included in packet).  If you have any questions, contact Coach Towe at anthony.towe@bgreen.kyschools.us
