Students Learn About Local Manufacturing Opportunities

BGHS students visit Kobe Aluminum

Group photo. BGHS students visit Kobe AluminumStudent groups from Bowling Green High School recently visited Constellium and Kobe Aluminum Automotive Products to learn about current and future manufacturing opportunities in Bowling Green. Each visit included information about the companies, a plant tour and conversations with human resources departments, specifically addressing important soft skills for the workplace.

BGHS students and their families are also learning more about the SKYFAME program, which allows students to be sponsored by a manufacturing company and work three days a week while going to school at the Franklin branch of SKYCTC. After five semesters in the program, students will have a free associate's degree in Advanced Manufacturing Technology, two years of work experience at a minimum of $12 per hour with benefits, plus a guaranteed job.

Advanced Manufacturing is the fastest growing field in our community with 4,500 new jobs expected by the year 2020. For more information about manufacturing or local career opportunities for BGHS students, contact Destiny O'Rourke, College and Career Readiness Coach.
